Honor the Fourth Trimester
In traditional cultures, new mothers are nourished, rested, and surrounded by community for the first 40 days! Your hormones are recalibrating as your estrogen and progesterone drop sharply after birth, while prolactin (milk-making hormone) surges. Allow yourself to slow down, say "no" to extras, and receive help. Rest is medicine.
Tip: Create a postpartum sanctuary: simple meals, cozy blankets, and scripture or affirmations near your nursing spot.

Eat to Rebuild: Nutrient-Dense, Blood-Sugar Balancing Foods
Your body needs serious nourishment to rebuild hormones. Focus on:
- Animal-based proteins: eggs, grass-fed beef, liver (rich in B12, iron, and retinol)
- Healthy fats: ghee, tallow, coconut oil, avocado
- Bone broth: healing for your gut and rich in amino acids
- Root veggies & cooked greens
Meal idea: Scrambled eggs with liver sausage, roasted sweet potatoes in butter or ghee, and a side of sauerkraut.
Support Your Adrenals & Thyroid
Low energy? Feeling wired but tired? Support your adrenals with:
A daily mineral-rich adrenal cocktail (orange juice + coconut water + sea salt)
Magnesium-rich foods or topical magnesium oil
Gentle walks in the sunshine (Vitamin D = hormone gold)
Also eat iodine-rich foods like seaweed or eggs to support your thyroid, especially if breastfeeding.
Heal Your Gut, Heal Your Hormones
After birth, your gut may be inflamed or sluggish. Gut health is key for hormone balance. Try:
- Fermented foods (sauerkraut, kefir, raw yogurt)
- Collagen from bone broth or grass-fed gelatin
- Slippery elm, dandelion, or marshmallow root teas for soothing digestion
Lean on Faith, Stillness & Breath
Your hormones respond to peace. Take quiet moments to invite God into your healing. Ideas:
- Meditative prayer or breathwork during nap time
- A walk while praying through the Psalms
- Journaling what the Lord is showing you in this season
Know It's OK to Ask for Help
Whether it's postpartum rage, weepiness, or exhaustion - you're not broken. Let your husband, doula, or friend support you. You were never meant to do this alone.
You're not just recovering - you're becoming. Your hormones will rebalance. Your body will feel like home again. For now, receive grace. Nourish deeply. And know the Lord is near to you in every moment.
